On Saturday I stepped off the plane into the home of my host family in Stuttgart. Melanie and Thomas are my host parents and Marie is three years old.
Once we left the airport we went into Stuttgart city centre because Melanie had to return some pants at a department store. Somehow we ended up drinking champagne and eating croissants while we waited for Thomas and Marie to catch up with us. On the car ride from the airport to town and then from town to home, both Thomas and Melanie explained a lot about the city, like the project to build a new train station and where the wineries are.
The next day we had brunch at home. Then Melanie and Thomas showed me around the the village we live in. The area we live in was built 20 years ago for young families so there are many playgrounds scattered throughout the residential area. We all went on the tram to an ice cream shop and had ice cream and coffee. Afterwards I meet the grandparents who live just one street over.
My first few days here have just been filled with seeing where everything is and going into the city with Melanie to sort out my visa. Today I took Marie into kindergarten by myself for the first time. I've had a really good first few days here, and I can't wait to see more of Stuttgart and Germany in the coming year.
